Welcome to The Behavioral Literacy Project!
“Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.” ~Einstein
In the last 250 years, we’ve gone from quills to quantum computers…
From horse-drawn carriages to Mars rovers.
From slate chalkboards to AI tutors.
You know what hasn’t changed?
The 3 R’s of elemental education: Reading, wRiting, & aRithmetic.
250 years…
And yet, elemental education hasn’t evolved to match our kids’ environments—or their realities.
The world sprinted ahead—smartphones, AI, the internet (YouTube, social media, and everything that comes with them)—while elemental K–8 education, still rooted in the 3 R’s, never evolved to meet it.
Let that sink in.
Enter the 4th R: BehavioR.
The Behavioral Literacy Project is a battle cry to modernize and democratize foundational behavioral science education—and align it with 21st-century life.
Amid skyrocketing youth anxiety, depression, and self-harm, it’s time every child learns the fundamentals of behavior.
It’s not only possible—it’s our mission.
No tool can promise perfect outcomes—yet we rely on maps and models every day to help us navigate. So, where are the maps and models for our kids? What tools help them understand their behavior?
We teach health. We even teach sex ed. Why aren’t we teaching behavioral literacy first?
For some reason, behavioral science has been relegated to the realm of universities, research labs, and PhD programs—effectively behind closed doors, far from the approachable.
Math, music, and language can be remarkably advanced and sophisticated—yet we still teach the basics.
There’s no reason we can’t teach the ABCs and 123s of behavioral science.
“We are all connected; to each other, biologically. To the Earth, chemically. To the rest of the universe, atomically.” — Neil deGrasse
It’s paradoxical: Science celebrates the interconnectedness of the universe—yet behavioral science itself remains fragmented, siloed, and without a unified model of behavior.
Behavior drives everything—yet somehow, we still lack a common language to understand it.
BLP’s Mission:
To make behavioral science as foundational as ABCs and 123s—democratizing access so every student can understand behavior: what drives it, how it works, and how to change it. We empower students to recognize the forces shaping their actions, make better choices, and build habits aligned with who they want to become.
It’s time to introduce a fourth R: BehavioR.

We’re looking for Strategic Partners, Educators, Practitioners, and Advocates to help us apply, evolve, and scale behavioral science education where it matters most—in classrooms, communities, and everyday life.
We’re also seeking Donors and Sponsors to fund new research and pilot programs that expand access and impact.
If that sounds like you—or if you're interested in lesson plans, workshops, curriculum, training programs, or even certification in the new UBM model—subscribe to receive updates and opportunities to get involved.
